THERAPEUTIC RIDING LESSONS:
For students with disabilities or other special needs, 2BG offers lessons that target potential therapeutic benefits personalized to each rider's physical, cognitive, and/or affective goals. Having goals that have been set by IEP's, OT's, PT's, and/or SLP's to incorporate into the riding lessons are welcomed and encouraged. Horseback riding with a qualified Therapeutic Riding Instructor has been shown to improve core strength, muscle tone, coordination, and balance as well as cognitive processes such as problem solving, sequencing, speech patterns, and critical thinking. Part of what is so beneficial about riding is that the three dimensional motion of the horse's pelvis mimics the human's walking motion. There is evidence that regular riding can potentially improve a rider's own ambulatory gait. During lessons, the rider is encouraged to connect with their horse and form a partnership. As the rider builds a rapport with their equine partner, self-esteem improves which can lead to more confidence in everyday life. Horses do not judge nor do they hold grudges. They can teach unconditional love and acceptance to their human partners. |
